Dental implants are artificial roots (titanium) that are surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone by an oral surgeon, periodontist or general dentist. What procedures are involved for dental implants process?

The implants process requires a number of visits over several months.

X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant.  Once this is determined, the implant will be surgically placed and allowed to intergrate into the bone for up to six months. Upon integration, a second surgery will be required to place a predetermined attachment to the dental implant. To this attachment a porcelain crown or fixed bridge can be placed. A stabilizer can be placed in a removable prosthesis that will insure retention once placed on the dental implant attachment.
